When Messaging Makes Sense

taron messaging is designed for follow-up and focused connection — not cold outreach to people you have never encountered. The most effective conversations start with shared context: you both attended the same event, you are members of the same community, you interacted in a Group, or you have been following the same host.

A message that references something specific — the event you both registered for, a comment they made in a community feed, a question about their work — gets a response. A generic "hey, let's connect" to someone who has no idea who you are usually does not.

Finding Someone to Message

You can open a new conversation from a member's taron profile, from an event attendee list (where visible), from your community member list, or from your Groups. Tap the message option on their profile to start a thread.

If you cannot find a messaging option on someone's profile, their settings may restrict who can contact them directly. In that case, engaging with them through a shared community or event is the better route — familiarity first, message later.

Writing an Opening Message That Gets Responses

Be specific. Be brief. Make it easy to reply.

A message like: "Hi — I saw your question about community building in the Lagos Founders community and I've been dealing with the same challenge. Would you be open to a quick conversation?" works because it has context, a clear reason for reaching out, and a low-commitment ask.

A message like: "Hi, I'd love to connect and explore synergies" gives the recipient nothing to respond to and signals that you did not invest time thinking about why you are reaching out.

Messaging Hosts and Creators

Hosts on taron receive messages from attendees and followers regularly. If you are messaging a host, lead with what you attended and what prompted you to reach out. A specific question — about an upcoming event, about their community, about their work — is far more likely to get a response than a general expression of interest.

Hosts with large followings may have limited capacity to respond personally. If you do not hear back within a week, one polite follow-up is reasonable. Two unanswered messages is a clear signal to step back.
