What Are Hybrid Events?
Hybrid Events run simultaneously in two modes: some attendees are physically present at a venue while others participate online. Both groups are part of the same event — they hear the same speakers, access the same programming, and have opportunities to interact — but through different access points.
For taron's audience of Africans on the continent and in the diaspora, hybrid events are particularly valuable. An event in Accra can include participants in Manchester. A Lagos business summit can have diaspora members joining from New York. The format bridges geography without compromising the experience.
Before You Join
Know your access type — When you register, confirm whether you're attending in person or online. This affects what you'll need to do to join and what the experience will look like.
Online attendees — Locate the link or access details for the virtual component. These are typically in your confirmation notification or on the event page. Test your connection and audio/video setup before the event starts.
In-person attendees — Review the venue details, check your ticket, and plan to arrive early enough to complete check-in before the programme begins.
During the Event
Hybrid events can have slight differences in experience between in-person and online attendees. Online participants may engage through a chat function, Q&A tool, or raised hand feature rather than speaking directly. In-person attendees are in the physical space and may have networking opportunities that online participants don't. Both experiences are valid — just different.
If you're online and having technical difficulties, try refreshing or rejoining the session. Check for any support instructions the host has shared for the event.
After the Event
Many hybrid events make recordings available afterward. Check the event page or the host's community for any post-event content, resources mentioned during the session, or discussion threads where you can continue engaging.
