Scanning Tickets with taronPass

This guide explains how to scan QR tickets with taronPass, what the verification screen shows after a successful scan, how to handle scanning issues, and how to manage high-attendance entry.

The Fastest Part of Event Check-In

When setup is done correctly and attendees are prepared, a taronPass scan takes under two seconds per person. The QR code is presented, the scanner reads it, the verification screen confirms the attendee's name and access tier, and entry is approved with a tap. That is the ideal experience — and it is achievable consistently with the right preparation.

Before You Start Scanning

Before the first attendee arrives:

  • Open taronPass and log in with your staff access code
  • Confirm the device is reading QR codes correctly with a test scan
  • Check battery level — bring a charging cable or power bank for long events
  • Ensure internet connection is stable, or confirm whether offline scanning is supported for your event
  • Have a backup device ready if possible

Never test the scanner for the first time when attendees are already in line.

How Ticket Scanning Works

When an attendee presents their QR ticket, point the taronPass scanner camera directly at the code. The code should fill most of the camera frame. After a successful scan, the verification screen displays:

  • Attendee name
  • Ticket type and access tier
  • Access badge (VIP, General, or custom tier)
  • Special access areas if applicable (VIP Lounge, Backstage, Private Dining)
  • Any host instructions specific to this attendee
  • Check-in timestamp

Tap Check in Guest to confirm entry. The attendance count updates immediately.

What Happens After a Successful Scan

The attendee is marked as attended in the event dashboard. Their QR code is flagged as used — if the same code is presented again at another entry point, the system will flag it as a duplicate scan.

Helping Attendees Prepare

The most common scanning delay is an attendee who has not opened their ticket before reaching the scanner. A brief sign at the entrance — "Have your QR ticket open and screen brightness turned up" — resolves most of these before they happen. Your pre-event attendee communication should also include this instruction.

Common Scanning Situations

Code scans but shows wrong event — The attendee may have multiple tickets. Ask them to locate the ticket for this specific event.

Duplicate scan alert — Pause, move the attendee to a support point, and review their registration before making an access decision.

Scan takes longer than usual — The code may be partially obscured or the screen is too dim. Ask the attendee to increase brightness and hold the phone steady.

Device stops scanning — Switch to a backup device and notify the event lead.

Managing High-Attendance Entry

For events expecting large arrival waves, open multiple scanning points before entry begins. Each device runs an independent taronPass session but all connect to the same event — attendance data is consolidated in real time regardless of which point scanned each ticket. Coordinate with a lead scanner who monitors all points and handles escalations.

Attendance Accuracy Matters

Every scan that is not completed reduces the accuracy of your attendance data. Staff should scan every attendee, including staff, speakers, sponsors, and VIP guests — use the appropriate access tier for each. Accurate attendance records make post-event analytics meaningful.

Common Questions

What should I do if a QR code will not scan?

Ask the attendee to increase screen brightness, reopen the ticket, and hold the phone steady. If scanning still fails, switch to manual lookup by name or email.

Can multiple devices scan for the same event simultaneously?

Yes. Multiple taronPass sessions can run in parallel for the same event, each recording to the same attendance database.

What does a duplicate scan alert mean?

The QR code has already been scanned at another entry point. Move the attendee to a support area and verify their identity before proceeding.

Does taronPass work offline?

Offline capability depends on the event configuration. Confirm connectivity requirements before the event.

Should staff and speakers be scanned too?

Yes. Scanning everyone produces accurate attendance data and allows the system to detect any unauthorised access attempts.
